Manchester City, according to Jack Grealish, are treated unfairly and are held to higher standards than other Premier League teams, with the Treble champions being dubbed to be in a ‘crisis’ following a modest run of negative results.
Grealish scored the game-winning goal – his second in two games – against a tenacious Luton team on Sunday, as City ended a sequence of three draws and a defeat in their previous four Premier League games.
And the forward has likened City’s treatment by supporters and the media to that of Arsenal, who have had it much easier following their own defeat to Aston Villa, with Unai Emery’s team defeating both Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta in the same week.
‘We only lost one game out of four, and we played four fantastic teams (Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham, and Villa),’ Grealish explained.
‘Take a look at Arsenal. Did they triumph over Chelsea? No. Did they triumph over Villa? No. Did they defeat the Spurs? No. They were defeated by those teams.
Manchester City, according to Jack Grealish, are being unfairly assessed and are not in a crisis.
Pep Guardiola’s side will compete in the Club World Cup next week for their fifth trophy of 2023.
‘But we didn’t win…’ it is, “City are in a crisis, blah blah blah” . People, I believe, strive to act as if there is a major crisis when, in fact, there isn’t.
‘We’re four points behind the league lead and will travel to Saudi Arabia next week to compete for a cup that will confirm us as the greatest in the world.’
This is an allusion to City’s participation in the Club World Cup next week, as Guardiola’s men try to add to their trophy total of the Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League, and UEFA Super Cup from 2023.
Grealish and company must first overcome the difficult challenge of Red Star Belgrade in Serbia on Wednesday, albeit the defending champions have already won their Champions League group and will likely rotate their starting XI ahead of visiting Crystal Palace on Saturday.
