Fans will see Cristiano Ronaldo compete with Lionel Messi when Al Nassr and Inter Miami finalize the friendly match schedule.
Inter Miami announced plans to play friendly matches before the 2024 season, making fans around the world excited. The American team will face Al Hilal and Al Nassr, which means Lionel Messi has the opportunity to face Cristiano Ronaldo.
“We hope fans around the world will watch this dream match,” said Mr. Xavier Asensi – CEO of Inter Miami.
“These matches will provide an important test for our team. This will benefit the team entering the new season. We are happy that Inter Miami has the opportunity to face teams of equal quality such as Al-Hilal and Al Nassr.”
Inter Miami will face Al Hilal at Kingdom Arena on January 29. Neymar – who moved to Al Hilal from August 2023 – will not be able to participate in this match to reunite with former teammate Messi. The Brazilian striker just had knee surgery in October and it will be difficult for him to recover in a short time.
Inter Miami’s most anticipated match is the match against Al Nassr. The match also took place at Kingdom Arena on February 1. Inter Miami’s homepage mentions Messi facing Ronaldo in this match, which is considered a guarantee for fans that the two superstars will definitely play unless injured.
Messi and Ronaldo faced each other a total of 35 times in their careers in official matches. According to Inter Miami statistics, Messi’s team won 16 times, Ronaldo won 10 matches. The Argentine superstar scored 21 goals and had 12 assists while Ronaldo had 20 goals and 1 assist.
The last time Ronaldo faced Messi was a friendly match that took place earlier this year between the Saudi Arabian star team and PSG. Both Messi and Ronaldo scored. Ronaldo’s team won 5-4 thanks to the decisive goal in the fourth minute of injury time of the second half, scored by Anderson Talisca.
In the upcoming rematch, Ronaldo has an advantage over Messi. The Portuguese superstar has a more regular playing rhythm and is achieving stable performance with 50 goals in 2023. Meanwhile, Messi stopped playing in November after Inter Miami ended the season in the US.
