Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial of Manchester United both skipped training ahead of their team’s vital Champions League match against Bayern Munich.
Rashford came off the bench in Manchester United’s 3-0 loss at home to Bournemouth, while Martial began and lasted 56 minutes before being replaced by Rasmus Hojlund. Both forwards were absent from Monday’s training session at Carrington, with United having to upset the German giants in order to move to the Champions League last-16 in midweek. According to Chris Wheeler of the Daily Mail, both of them became ill prior to the training session and had to withdraw from it.
Ten Hag’s job security has been called into question this season as the Red Devils have been a disappointment, particularly in the Champions League, where they have only won one of five games. They have lost seven of their sixteen Premier League games. A win over the Bavarians, on the other hand, could help him fix the dilemma.
According to Opta, United’s 3-0 loss to Bournemouth was the first time they had lost a game at Old Trafford by three or more goals to a team that started the game in the bottom half of the standings.
Ten Hag will be hopeful that the forwards return to training on Tuesday because he will want as many choices as possible when they face Bayern Munich on Wednesday, December 13.
