Manchester United play Bayern Munich in their last Champions League group encounter on Wednesday night at Old Trafford.

With Bayern virtually assured to finish first in Group A, United must compete for the final qualification spot for the last-16 with Copenhagen and Galatasaray.

The Danes are currently in second place, one goal ahead of Galatasaray on goal difference.

Both of those teams have five points more than the Red Devils, who have four points after tonight’s fixtures.

If two teams finish even, the winner will be determined by their head-to-head record before goal difference and goals scored.

Manchester United variants

If Manchester United wins, they will be the only team to qualify for the last-16. However, Copenhagen and Galatasaray must draw their games in Denmark.

If Galatasaray or Copenhagen also win, United will finish third and be relegated to the Europa League.

If Manchester United draw: This will not be enough to advance to the last-16. If Galatasaray and Copenhagen also draw, Manchester United will finish last in the group.

In this case, a Galatasaray win would be enough for United to finish third, as they are level in the head-to-head tiebreaker with Copenhagen and would overcome them based on goal difference or goals scored.

However, a win in Copenhagen would drop United to the bottom of the table because Galatasaray has a better head-to-head record versus them.

If Manchester United lose: Regardless of what happens in Denmark, United will finish bottom of the group and out of Europe.
