Manchester United fans were stunned by the lack of quality players on display at an open training session on Monday.
Erik ten Hag’s team practiced close-control rondo drills as they prepared to face Bayern Munich in the Champions League tonight.
Normally, this is done away from prying eyes, although media members are permitted to observe a portion of the session prior to UEFA matches.
As a result, Man United writer Andy Mitten tweeted a 26-second video of Ten Hag’s players participating in a rondo practice, which has since been seen over 13 million times.
United’s players are shown in it with sloppy touches and passing the ball out of play after two or three passes, leaving supporters stunned by the lack of quality.
The number of misplaced passes in a video of a Manchester United training field rondo has gone viral.
Fans were thoroughly displeased, believing it made their poor performance’make sense.’
‘Our performances make sense now,’ wrote one fan.
‘Now I understand why they can’t string passes together,’ said another.
‘People are blaming Ten Hag for the results when he has players earning millions but can’t thread three passes together,’ remarked a third.
Other disgruntled fans said that their Sunday League teams had fared better in similar drills than United appeared to.
‘There’s probably £5 million per week salaries in that film – and they’re worse than my old Sunday league team,’ one user said.
Another enthusiast stated, ’13-year-olds can play a better rondo than this, and I’m not even exaggerating.’
Some supporters even believed that a group of children or a Sunday League club could perform the rondo better.
United enters Matchday 6 of the Champions League knowing that they must defeat Bayern Munich in order to advance.
Bayern, who have rebounded powerfully with 4-0 wins after defeats this season, are still smarting from a 5-1 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt at the weekend.
In order to advance, United must win and hope that FC Copenhagen and Galatasaray cancel each other out in Denmark.
Ten Hag rallied his Manchester United players ahead of Tuesday’s crucial Champions League match against Bayern Munich, claiming, ‘We can beat anyone.’
Bayern has been unbeaten in their last 39 group matches dating back more than six years, but Ten Hag believes United can still advance.
‘If we are in the proper mood, we can do it and beat any opponent,’ declared United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
‘I never consider a negative possibility; we always consider a happy situation. We know what we need to do. It’s all about winning if we want to stay in Europe.
‘We will prepare the team with that feeling, with the conviction that we can accomplish it. We’ve proven in recent weeks that when we’re at our best, we can do it.’
However, their training ground rondo drill has done little to encourage supporters’ confidence.
Erik ten Hag is confident that his team can ‘defeat anyone’ as they prepare to play Bayern Munich.
