Paul Scholes believes Manchester United would “find themselves in big trouble” if they perform as poorly as they did against Bournemouth in their upcoming match against Bayern Munich.
Erik ten Hag and his squad have had a difficult season, and they were crushed by the Cherries in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon at Old Trafford. Bayern Munich is set to return to the same legendary location tonight (8 p.m.).
If United are to go to the knockout stages in Europe this season, they will have a mountain to climb. Even if they defeat the German heavyweights, they will need a draw in the other Group A encounter between FC Copenhagen and Galatasaray to stay in the Champions League.
Before the game, Scholes told TNT Sports, “The damage is done.” They’ve been in advantageous positions. It was a travesty to lose at home to Galatasaray.
“They most likely got what they deserved.” I’m not sure what Bayern Munich’s mindset will be like, and they also suffered a shocking defeat last weekend [5-1 against Eintracht Frankfurt].
“However, I believe that big clubs want to come to Old Trafford and win.” It’s the grandeur of winning at Manchester United. If United continues to play as they did against Bournemouth, they may be in big trouble.”
“Manchester United should not be associated with the Europa League,” Scholes said, “but there will be some big clubs in it in the New Year.” If United enters, there will be Liverpool and other comparable teams.
“The only reason big clubs are in it is because they failed this season or last season.” I believe it is better if they play one game per week, try to prepare his team, and develop a culture that works for the football club.”
