Following their final Champions League group match against Bayern Munich, Manchester United was eliminated from European competition, and Erik ten Hag’s suffering was further exacerbated when Harry Maguire sustained an injury.
United, who had won just one of their six games, were eliminated from the Champions League and dropped to the bottom of their group after a goal from Kingsley Coman in the second half.
Although some may be surprised that United did not advance from their relatively easy group, the campaign’s results made qualifying against Bayern nearly impossible, and Copenhagen’s victory over Galatasaray in the other Group A match assured qualification.
The response to Maguire’s injury, though, may have come as the biggest surprise. United supporters were understandably disappointed to see their best player limp off in the first half while clutching his groin.
After being almost completely written off in the summer, Maguire has made an incredible comeback this season. United supporters may have been relieved to see him take some time off the field.
However, United supporters now believe that Maguire is unstoppable, and Ten Hag was under more stress and strain as a result of the 30-year-old’s loss, with some supporters still being critical of the Dutchman.
While some supporters criticized Ten Hag and his strategies, others expressed more philosophical views regarding United’s current situation and the period of transition they have been through.
But many supporters were hurt by Maguire’s injury, especially because United’s next matchup with Liverpool is quickly approaching.
