Giorgio Chiellini announced his retirement from football LAFC’s MLS Cup defeat

After playing for a while at LAFC, Chiellini has announced his retirement from football.

Chiellini played his last two years of professional basketball at LAFC, where he won an MLS Cup in 2022 and lost the most recent cup final to Columbus Crew this past weekend. That setback at Lower.com The defender said in a statement on X that this will be his final game as a professional football player.

“You have been the most beautiful and intense journey of my life,” he wrote. “You have been my everything. With you I have travelled a unique and unforgettable path.

“But now it is time to start new chapters, face new challenges and write further important and exciting pages of life.”

Before being granted a transfer to Serie A team Fiorentina in 2004–05, the defender made his senior football debut at home club Livorno back in 2000–01. After Juventus was demoted to Serie B due to the Calciopoli scandal, Chiellini was signed by the team in the summer of 2005 based on his left-back performances in his first Serie A season. He went on to establish himself as a regular at the club.

During Juventus’s first season back in the top flight, Chiellini’s play reached a new height when he was shifted to the center of defense by Claudio Ranieri.

Chiellini would go on to become a true club icon and is regarded as one of the greatest defenders of his generation during his 17 years in Turin.

The Italian won five Coppa Italia and an incredible nine consecutive Serie A titles between 2011 and 2020 with his well-known “BBC” colleagues Leonardo Bonucci and Andrea Barzagli.

On the international front, Chiellini led Italy to a historic triumph at Euro 2020, demonstrating a mastery of defense in the team’s victory over England at Wembley Stadium.
