Ederson has made the final three shortlist of the prestigious Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper Award 2023.
Our brilliant Brazilian is up against Yassine Bounou and Thibaut Courtois for the accolade which covers the period 19 December 2022 to 20 August 2023.
The winner will be revealed at a London ceremony on 15 January 2024.
FIFA originally announced a five-man shortlist in September, but Andre Onana – now of Manchester United bit formerly of Inter – and Marc-Andre ter Stegen of Barcelona have both been eliminated.
The quintet were chosen by a panel of experts, with the final three selected by an international jury comprising: men’s national team coaches, men’s national team captains, football journalists, and fans who voted on FIFA’s official website.
Treble-winner Ederson enjoyed incredible success during the eight-month qualification period for the award, winning the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup and then adding the UEFA Super Cup shortly before the deadline for the FIFA honour.
The City keeper, who has 310 appearances for the Club and 15 trophies to show for his seven seasons with the Blues, played a pivotal role in all our successes in the past calendar year but perhaps none more so than his vital stops in the Champions League final against Inter where he kept a clean sheet during and outstanding performance.
Ederson was nominated for the Ballon d’Or earlier this season but lost out to Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez.
Everyone at Manchester City hopes ‘Eddy’ fares better on this occasion.
