Paul Scholes points out two Man Utd players are ‘quite selfish’ after 0-1 defeat to Bayern Munich

Man United finish bottom of Group A, leaving Erik ten Hag out of the Europa League and bringing an end to a truly awful Champions League season.

Paul Scholes, a Manchester United veteran, is concerned about the attack and has targeted wingers Antony and Alejandro Garnacho.

Scholes told TNT Sports that United needed more inventiveness from their wide players, something they didn’t receive from Antony or Garnacho.

Scholes even implied that they are ‘very selfish’ players who like to score themselves rather than set up teammates.

“You expect creativity from your wide players, Antony and Garnacho, but they are quite selfish players,” said Scholes. “They are not players who are looking up, they’re thinking about scoring their own goals, thinking about scoring themselves,” he added.

Antony and Garnacho combined for zero vital passes and zero accurate crosses before being substituted on 74 minutes against Bayern.

That simply isn’t good enough in a game that United had to win despite a severe lack of creativity.

Rasmus Hojlund didn’t even have a sniff this time, failing to record a shot on goal after being denied service.

The Dane has potential, but he needs to get the ball inside the area, which isn’t happening right now thanks to Garnacho or Antony.

It wasn’t much better against Bournemouth, with nine crosses combined but only one finding a United player.

Both Antony and Garnacho have tremendous quality and potential, and their duties as inverted wingers may be slightly different from the old-school wide men who would hug the touchline and whip crosses in.

What we’re witnessing isn’t good enough, and if United want to get the most out of Hojlund, Antony and Garnacho must start finding him in the box.
