Alexis MacAllister’s knee injury isn’t serious, despite the fact that the Liverpool midfielder showed his leg with stitches and a brace… but the Argentinian is still a major worry for the Manchester United match

Despite posting photographs on social media of himself on crutches, getting stitches, and wearing a leg brace, Alexis Mac Allister’s knee injury is nothing to be concerned about.

The 24-year-old had a terrible cut on his knee during a hard tackle against Sheffield United last Wednesday and, despite continuing for a few minutes, was substituted early in the second half and missed the subsequent trip to Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Mac Allister needed two stitches following a serious cut to his knee, and manager Jurgen Klopp said last Friday that it ‘doesn’t look good’. On Tuesday afternoon, the midfielder issued an update on social media, which led some supporters to believe it was a more serious injury.

Mac Allister was shown on crutches, watching a football game at home with his knee braced, and undergoing sutures last week in an Instagram post. However, the midfielder is only going through a detailed treatment plan following severe bruising and swelling in his knee.

Some admirers worried that Mac Allister had suffered ligament damage as a result of his photographs, however this is not the case, and he has only sustained an impact injury. The midfielder sought to demonstrate the recuperation efforts he was taking in order to return to full fitness in due course.

Alexis Mac Allister's knee injury is nothing to cause serious worry despite his recent Instagram update

Despite his latest Instagram status, Alexis Mac Allister’s knee ailment is nothing to be concerned about.

Mac Allister posted a photo of himself using crutches and a protective boot.

Liverpool have not given a timetable for his recovery, but Mac Allister will miss the Reds’ last Europa League group-stage fixture against Union Saint-Gilloise in Brussels. He was unlikely to play in it anyhow, considering that they had already won the group.

Mac Allister remains a major concern for Saturday’s encounter against Manchester United, with Klopp joking this week: ‘It’s not that serious, but we’re in the moment of the year where, if you’re out for five days, it’s pretty much 12 games!’
