Pep Guardiola has been named one of the three finalists for the Best FIFA Men’s Coach award for 2023.
Our coach will compete for the trophy against Inter’s Simone Inzaghi and Luciano Spalletti, presently of Italy and formerly of Napoli.
The winner will be announced on January 15 at a ceremony in London.
It is our boss’ third nomination in a row, having previously been nominated in 2022 and 2021. In 2019, he was also on the shortlist.
Guardiola has established his reputation as probably the greatest manager in the history of the game after leading City to a historic Treble in 2022/23.
He is the first manager in European football history to have won two Trebles, having previously done it with Barcelona.
During the 2022/23 domestic season, Pep led City to a third consecutive Premier League triumph – and fifth in six years – after we rallied from an eight-point deficit to Arsenal at the start of April to win the league with three matches to spare.
We then won our seventh FA Cup with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Manchester United in the first-ever all-Manchester cup final at Wembley.
Then came the spectacular events in Istanbul, where Rodrigo’s second-half winner against Inter gave us our first Champions League title.
We won the UEFA Super Cup for the first time in August after defeating Sevilla on penalties, and we have the chance to make it five big trophies in a calendar year in the FIFA Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia next week.
Congratulations to Pep on his nomination; everyone at City hopes he wins in January.
