Pep Guardiola has been selected one of three contenders for the FIFA Men’s Coach of the Year award for 2023.
Our coach will battle for the trophy against Inter’s Simone Inzaghi and Luciano Spalletti, who is currently the coach of Italy and was previously the coach of Napoli.
The winner will be unveiled at a ceremony in London on January 15.
It is our boss’ third nomination in a row, following nominations in 2022 and 2021. He was also on the shortlist in 2019.
Guardiola has cemented his reputation as the greatest manager in the history of the game after leading City to an unprecedented treble in 2022/23.
He is the first manager in European football history to have won two Trebles, having done it with Barcelona earlier.
During the 2022/23 domestic season, Pep led City to their third consecutive Premier League title – and fifth in six years – after rallying from an eight-point deficit to Arsenal at the start of April to win the league with three games to spare.
Then, in the first-ever all-Manchester cup final at Wembley Stadium, we won our seventh FA Cup with a thrilling 2-1 triumph over Manchester United.
Then came Istanbul, where Rodrigo’s second-half winner against Inter won us our first Champions League trophy.
We won the UEFA Super Cup for the first time in August, defeating Sevilla on penalties, and we have the chance to make it five major trophies in a calendar year next week in Saudi Arabia at the FIFA Club World Cup.
Congratulations to Pep on his nomination; we all hope he wins in January.
