Manchester United’s dreadful UEFA Champions League campaign came to an end on Wednesday, when the Premier League side ended bottom of Group A after falling to group-topper Bayern Munich 0-1.

United became the first Premier League club to finish bottom of a Champions League group twice, after doing so in 2005/06. This is also the fourth occasion an English team has finished bottom of the group stage of the competition, following Blackburn Rovers (1995/96) and Manchester City (2012/23).

The three-time European champion, who only won one game in the group round, also established an unwelcome record for the most goals conceded (15) by a Premier League team in a Champions League group stage campaign.

Only Manchester City in 2012 (three points) have fewer points in a UCL season than the Red Devils this season (four).

In terms of losses and points collected, this is also United’s poorest Champions League season.

As the group runner-up, FC Copenhagen joined Bayern Munich in the Round of 16, while Galatasaray advanced to the Europa League.
