Chelsea could forget about Osimhen move by launching swoop for Sporting CP’s £86m star

It would be accurate to characterize Chelsea’s campaign thus far as chaotic, just like it was the previous year, with little under half of the Premier League season played.

The expectation was that Mauricio Pochettino would take over and lead the team in the right path, but the west Londoners appear more lost than ever.

The team’s current output of projected goals is the fourth-highest in the league, so adding a talented striker might propel them up the standings. That is the one bright spot, though.

Victor Osimhen, a standout for Napoli, has lately been linked to a transfer to Stamford Bridge. Viktor Gyökeres of Sporting CP, the most recent player mentioned, would be a better choice, though, considering the £120 million the Italians are seeking for their attacker.

Chelsea is keen to add a striker in the January transfer window, but Swedish striker Gyökeres has risen up their wishlist as Osimhen might cost up to £120 million, according to Simon Phillips (via The Chelsea Chronicle).

Due to his recent arrival, a winter transfer will be much sought after. According to Portuguese publication Record (via Sport Witness), an offer of roughly €100 million, or £86 million, would be required to sign the marksman.

Even though it is still a significant sum of money, Osimhen’s asking price has been reduced by £34 million, and given that the former Coventry star has contributed 16 goals in 16 appearances for the Portuguese powerhouses, it would likely be worthwhile.

How Viktor Gyökeres compares to Victor Osimhen

Now, either of these players would be a significant upgrade over Chelsea’s current attacking options. Gyökeres appears to have the potential to be just as good as the Nigerian “goal machine,” as journalist Mimi Fawaz put it, but the latter has a stronger record in Europe’s top five leagues.

Despite switching leagues in the summer, he has carried over his dominance from the previous season in the Championship, where he scored 21 goals and contributed 12 assists in just 47 starts.

Gyökeres is much ahead of the former Lille player in a number of areas, including progressive passes, carries, passing accuracy, shot-generating actions, and effective take-ons. This may indicate that Gyökeres is a more well-rounded player who can be useful in both creating and finishing chances.

In the end, there isn’t much separating the two superstars, although Gyökeres is a more desirable target due to his better creative metrics and lower price.
