Manchester United will be missing captain Bruno Fernandes for this weekend’s crucial Premier League match against Liverpool.
During a difficult season, the Red Devils captain has been one of the few players who has performed admirably.
Fernandes’ debut season as Manchester United captain has been forgettable.
Fernandes has three goals in the Premier League this season, more than Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, and Rasmus Hojlund combined.
The 29-year-old has three assists and is the only outfield player to have started every Premier League game this season.
Despite playing the entire 90 minutes in the 1-0 loss to Bayern Munich, Fernandes will miss the trip to Anfield on Sunday.
Why is Fernandes not playing against Liverpool?
Due to a one-match domestic suspension, the Portuguese will be unable to play Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Fernandes received his fifth Premier League yellow card of the season late in their 3-0 loss at Bournemouth.
With five minutes remaining in normal time and the Cherries already three up, the former Sporting Lisbon star was booked for dissent.
As a result, he is suspended for their next league match, which is away at Anfield against league leaders Liverpool.
Neville chastised Fernandes for his antics at Anfield last season.
Last season, United defeated 7-0, with Fernandes in particular having one of his worst games since joining the club.
And the method in which he was suspended for the reunion has since been called into doubt, with Fernandes accused of purposefully getting himself cautioned.
Andy Gray asked Richard Keys if Fernandes knew he was going to miss the trip to Liverpool, and his co-host replied, “Yes.”
“I think he knows at 3-0 down, because I think United stopped playing in the last ten minutes, and it could have been four or five.”
“I think he knows that next week could be a bad day out for them, and if we’re all agreed that if he got booked, he’d miss the game, then I can’t think of any other scenario in which I could give him the leeway on that.”
“Say something like, ‘Well, it was a heated moment.'” It wasn’t, I think he knew he’d get booked and he’d miss the game, and I think it sums him up.
“He’s not a captain, he’s not a leader, his position has been questioned by proper Manchester United captains, people like Roy Keane, all season.”
