Liverpool fans get anggry that Union Saint-Gilloise’s first goal against the Reds in the Europa League was offside

Jurgen Klopp’s side fell down when opposing attacker Mohamed Amoura put the hosts ahead in the last group stage match of the second-tier European competition.

The goal was given as the Belgian side seized the lead against the run of play, but Liverpool fans are upset because they believe the striker was offside.

Amoura broke through on goal before finishing past Caoimhin Kelleher, who appeared to be offside as he raced through the midst of defenders Jarell Amorin Quansah and Ibrahima Konate.

Amoura’s attack partner Gustaf Nilsson’s ball put the 23-year-old through on goal, but images appear to show him ahead of Liverpool defenders Quansah and Konate when the connection was made.

Liverpool fans are unhappy that Union Saint-Gilloise’s first goal against the Reds in the Europa League on Thursday was offside.

‘Offside surely?’ exclaimed one Liverpool fan. ‘Come on, it’s like a tiny fraction of a second. Zoom in and you’ll see the white of the ball still close to his foot.’

Another user commented, ‘Blatant cheating he’s so far offside,’ in response to the questionable goal being allowed to stand.’

The incident was not reviewed by VAR as Union Saint-Gilloise scored first before Liverpool defender Quansah equalized with his first goal for the club minutes later.

Cameron Puertas scored the third goal of the first half to give the home team the lead for the second time in the game on the stroke of halftime.

Other Reds fans mirrored their frustrations as another added: ‘Sorry to labour the point but a better screenshot doesn’t make it any more onside, does it? Ha.’

Another commenter online said: ‘Clear as day offside. Doesn’t matter because of the occasion but yet again we get zero replays for a reason.’

Liverpool’s European ambitions this season are unaffected by the overall outcome, as Klopp’s team has already qualified for the next stage of the competition after topping their group.

He chose to rest some first-team stars for the match in preparation for Sunday’s much anticipated Premier League meeting with Manchester United at Anfield.
