Moises Caicedo reveals why Chelsea was the only club for him when picking the next step in his career

When choosing the next step in his career during the summer, Moises Caicedo explained why Chelsea was the only club for him. The Blues icon, whose shirt is one of his most valuable things, also shared his thoughts.

The Ecuadorian international moved from Brighton & Hove Albion to Chelsea in August after the Blues saw him as the ideal choice to strengthen our midfield.

When Liverpool surfaced as late rivals for Moises Caicedo’s signature, it appeared for a while that we may lose out on him. However, the 22-year-old has now reaffirmed there was never any chance he would play this season anywhere other than Stamford Bridge.

‘I was talking with Chelsea for a long time,’ explained Caicedo. ‘It was impossible to say no to Chelsea, because they were with me, supporting me.

‘In the summer I suffered a lot because it was complicated to leave Brighton. Chelsea were with me, and in the last moment Liverpool called me but it was too late because I wanted to play for Chelsea. It was tough to say no to Chelsea.’

Now that he is a Chelsea player, approximately halfway through his debut season at the Bridge, Caicedo is getting to know everything there is to know about playing for the Blues. He acknowledges that under pressure can be challenging when things aren’t going our way, but he is optimistic that, with time and the support of our head coach Mauricio Pochettino, he and the team will succeed.

‘We have a good relationship. He protects me from the criticism. He has been really kind and patient with me.

‘He knows who I am and that is why he is relaxed with me. I’ve only been here four months, I didn’t do a good pre-season because it was tough for me. I’m sure I’m going to really show my quality, to show who I am.’

Pochettino congratulates Caicedo on victory on his first start for Chelsea, beating Luton 3-0 at Stamford Bridge

‘At Chelsea you always have to win. Always, every game, if you don’t win you feel the pressure, because the fans always want to see the team winning.’

Hopefully Caicedo will have many more enjoyable moments at Chelsea. Our next Premier League game, against Sheffield United, is this Saturday at Stamford Bridge.
