Manchester United fans will only get to see their team play twice in January.
The holiday season and the days after it are frequently marked by a hectic schedule, but Erik ten Hag’s charges are in for a break.
Manchester United players exit the field after being eliminated from the Champions League on December 11.
The Red Devils are still grieving from their elimination from the Champions League this season. Their 1-0 loss to Bayern Munich and Copenhagen’s win over Galatasaray saw them eliminated from Europe.
Ten Hag’s team has four more games in 2023, beginning with a trip to Anfield to face Liverpool on Sunday. Following that, they’ll travel to London to face West Ham before hosting a high-flying Aston Villa team on Boxing Day.
They will finish the calendar year 2023 with another away trip to a struggling Nottingham Forest.
Manchester United’s January schedule
Their first game of the new year will be an FA Cup fixture against Wigan Athletic on January 8, followed by a Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur on January 14.
Following that, they will travel to Molineux to face Wolverhampton Wanderers on February 1. This game was originally scheduled for January 30.
Addressing the developments on its website, the club explained that the modifications were forced by the matches planned for live broadcast in the UK.
“The reason is that our Premier League away clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers has been moved from Tuesday 30 January to Thursday 1 February.”
The West Ham encounter, which was originally set for February 3, will also be rescheduled at a later date.
United, on the other hand, can add a third game to their schedule if they beat Wigan and advance to the fourth round of the FA Cup, which is planned for the week of January 27-28.
How Manchester United’s fixtures compare to those of their rivals
Manchester United’s opponents will compete in at least three games in January. Manchester City, for example, has an FA Cup tie against Huddersfield Town before facing Newcastle United and Burnley.
Liverpool will face Newcastle, Arsenal (FA Cup), Bournemouth, and Chelsea, with the prospect of adding further games if they overcome West Ham in the Carabao Cup quarterfinals next week and Arsenal in the FA Cup.
Arsenal will face Liverpool in the FA Cup, Crystal Palace, and Nottingham Forest.
