Although it may not be 7-0 on Sunday, I am confident that Liverpool will defeat Manchester United. Why? Because they have superior talent at every position.
Who would Liverpool take from Manchester United? Perhaps Bruno Fernandes. I believe he would be a star on Liverpool’s team since he possesses all of the traits required of a good player. However, something is missing from his game right now.
That is why, of the 22 players who will line up at kickoff, I believe the best 11 will all be wearing the red of the home club. That was the reason for my optimism in March, when I predicted Liverpool would win by two or three goals before the game, which was shown live on Sky. In the end, I was mistaken: it was seven! Liverpool, according to Gary Neville, did not play well.
That day was a lot of fun for me as a pundit. It was one of those games that left you thinking, “Wow, I was there.” It was a memorable day that verified what I believed at the time – and continue to believe – about the respective qualities of the two squads.
I’ve played against Manchester United numerous times, but we’ve never had it so easy. Not even once. They had fantastic players, but they could never get close enough to us in the league. Nonetheless, it was a hotly competitive fixture. Don’t forget about Bryan Robson.
Bruno Fernandes is the only Manchester United player that would play for Liverpool.
Liverpool’s lineup is stacked with goal scorers like Mohamed Salah, whereas Manchester United’s isn’t.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are equal favorites for the Premier League title, according to Graeme Souness.
Although it may not be 7-0 on Sunday, Souness believes Liverpool will defeat Manchester United.
However, in March, some of their players threw in the towel. They just said, ‘Nah, this isn’t for me,’ after a few goals. And Anfield was meant to be their biggest game of the season. What does that imply? If I were a Manchester United fan, I’d be worried because they’re headed to Liverpool right now, with their season in shambles.
Meanwhile, Liverpool is even more confident than they were back then, and they lead the Premier League. Consider the goals scored: Liverpool has 36, whereas Manchester United has 18. That is double and tells you all about their differences.
Liverpool has a plethora of players vying for a goal. Man United rely on Scott McTominay more than anybody else, despite the fact that he is a holding midfielder by trade!
Goals alter the entire atmosphere of a football club. They have the ability to conceal flaws. You don’t have to play well every week to win games if you have goal scorers, and Liverpool have plenty of them right now.
I’d put them on par with Manchester City for the Premier League title. They have players who have done it before, which is a huge advantage. They understand how it is won. When that expertise is combined with those objectives, they will be right there. For any opponent, they are a very, very dangerous team.
Compare it to Manchester United. Except for Fulham, who have risen to 10th in recent weeks, they have only defeated teams currently in the bottom half of the table. They’re in the top six but don’t appear to be capable of beating anyone up there, and only sides in the bottom six have scored fewer than them.
That leads me to Rasmus Hojlund. He cost £72 million in the summer and is yet to score in the Premier League. When his fellow Dane, Christian Eriksen, was questioned about him, all he answered was that he’s quick and aggressive. That, I felt, was a warning flag, because someone who knows him should have been warmer and more positive.
I’ve written extensively on Erik ten Hag, and as a former manager, I would never advocate for another to lose their job. However, with a new co-owner on the way, everyone at that club must look over their shoulder. It requires a complete overhaul.
Erik ten Hag is under pressure at Manchester United after a terrible season, and a trip to in-form league leaders Liverpool on Sunday is unlikely to change that.
Scott McTominay, a holding midfielder, has been his team’s main provider of goals this season.
The football decisions have cost them £1 billion and have left them with a collection of players that are simply not good enough for where the club should be.
They’ve tried everything in terms of managers, including serial champions Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho, club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and now Ten Hag.
But it makes no difference who they have if they keep signing average players. That is why, in my opinion, Liverpool will defeat them again this weekend.
Having said that, if there was ever a game to restart your season and build confidence, victory at Anfield would be it. I simply can not see it happening.
