MANCHESTER UNITED supporters were as enraged as Diogo Dalot following the defender’s strange red card at Liverpool.
After challenging a stoppage-time throw-in during a 0-0 draw, the right-back was sent off for two yellow cards in five seconds, both for dissent.
Diogo Dalot couldn’t believe it when he received his red card.
Viewers argued Dalot was correct in his accusation, but referee Michael Oliver disqualified him for arguing vehemently and repeated the offense.
Despite Liverpool having 34 shots on goal at Anfield, United managed to earn a point.
Fans were as taken aback by Dalot’s “joke” dismissal as they were by Jurgen Klopp’s Reds’ failure to score.
“Wait!!” one onlooker wrote. Was he awarded a yellow card for disobedience twice? The English referees have gone insane.”
“Booked twice for dissent,” wrote another. “They’re making it up as they go along.”
The ball looked to come off Mo Salah last as he attempted to wiggle past Dalot down the left.
When Oliver decided against him, the Portugal defender reacted with shock and rage.
Dalot’s vehement objections earned him two yellow cards, but whistler Oliver is no stranger to such a swift double yellow.
He also sent off Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli in just a few seconds against Wolves in February 2022.
Brazil’s attacker was cautioned for pushing Daniel Podence at a throw-in, then for fouling Chiquinho moments later.
Former England striker Dion Dublin was among numerous experts to criticize Oliver’s conduct against Dalot.
“He was absolutely fuming,” he said on BBC Radio 5 live. He was correct, it was a Manchester United throw, but he continued to respond. “Two cards in two seconds, unbelievable!”
“I swear,” one admirer said, sympathizing with Dalot’s outburst. “How does one maintain control in situations like this?”
Another person commented, “Sent off for dissent twice in a few seconds is crazy.”
