Manchester United drew 0-0 with Liverpool at Anfield, a respectable result for the Red Devils.
It wasn’t a particularly good game, but all that matters to Erik ten Hag is that his team earned a point in possibly the most difficult venue to travel in the Premier League.
Kobbie Mainoo, despite his youthful age, was one player who oozed class once again. The 18-year-old was exceptional, which his full-time manager recognized.
Ten Hag had nothing but praise for Mainoo following his performance against Liverpool in his post-match press conference.
He said: “He has some calmness and composure. His biggest quality is his scanning but he is good physically. He is young, will adjust to the game and will adjust to the intensity of the Premier League.”
Ten Hag also spoke about how his age simply isn’t a problem given his classy performances.
“When you are good enough you are old enough. He proved that and when he gets used to those games, we will even get more joy from it.
“With his scanning and speed of action, he can get switches in, he is the player who can really hurt opponents.”
On the night, Manchester United’s critique had to be that chances were few and far between.
This was always going to be the case at Liverpool, and a lot of it was due to a lack of composure in controlling the game. But this is irrelevant to Mainoo. Despite his age, it’s amazing how infrequently he gives away the ball.
He has already demonstrated his ability to command a game, and he came dangerously close to providing the killer ball for Alejandro Garnacho to score what may have been the game-winning goal.
We’ve got a genuine talent on our hands. Kobbie Mainoo’s future is incredibly bright.
