Rasmus Hojlund’s performance against Liverpool baffled Paul Scholes, as the youthful forward extended an unwelcome streak.
Sunday’s stalemate at Anfield marks Hojlund’s 13th Premier League game without a goal, and it’s understandable that some fans are apprehensive about when the £72 million player will make his first contribution.
Others are more patient and tolerant with the 20-year-old, partially because of his youth, but also because of how he performed in the Champions League, where he scored five goals in six group-stage games and was United’s lone bright spot in a disappointing season.
Former Reds critical of Hojlund
Yesterday, Hojlund came the closest to breaking United’s five-year goal drought at Anfield. In the second half, he had a one-on-one with Alisson Becker but saw his attempts stopped by the Brazilian after blasting straight at the goalie – a phase of play that Roy Keane believes Hojlund could’ve done better in.
Paul Scholes also chimed in on the young Dane’s performance, pointing out how little Hojlund saw of the ball throughout the game.
He stated on Premier League Productions: “People like Hojlund, not really touched the ball. Four touches. I don’t know how it’s possible for a footballer to play, what was it 47 minutes?! And he’s only touched the ball four times, it’s incredible.”
