‘They are still there’, Jose Mourinho cautioned Manchester United of players who would stymie their progress

Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has disclosed that he informed the club about a number of players and employees who were impeding success.

Jose Mourinho sends fresh message to Man Utd regarding 'players I warned them about'

Mourinho claimed he sent the warning to United only two months into his employment, but that a lot of players and coaches are still on the team.

“There are still people in that club, and when I say people, I mean some players but also some non-players, who are still there two months after I told [United]: ‘With these people, you’re never going to do it.'” “And they’re still there,” he explained.

Mourinho was the manager of Manchester United from 2016 to 2018, winning the Europa League and the Carabao Cup in his first season.

The Red Devils finished second in the Premier League behind Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City the following season, and they lost the FA Cup final to Chelsea.

Mourinho’s third season with the club, however, was cut short when the 60-year-old was fired in December 2018 following a string of poor results.

The Portuguese coach, who is now in charge of Roma, described how his stint at the club influenced his coaching style.

“At Manchester United, I changed a player at half-time… his agent was then accusing me of bullying,” he was quoted as saying.

“I needed to change. I recall these times and laugh about them, but they are different eras.”

Apart from winning the Carabao Cup earlier this year, United have not had much success under Mourinho.

Under manager Erik ten Hag, they are now seventh in the Premier League table and have been eliminated from the UEFA Champions League in the group round.

Despite the bitter finish to his time at United, Mourinho maintained he was still respected by the fans.

“The fans know how much I love the club and I went there [Old Trafford] once with Sky, I was in the box and the whole stadium turned to me applauding and singing for me,” claimed the former Manchester United player.

“If that happens when I go to Inter, Madrid, Porto, or Chelsea, you say, ‘okay, this is because of everything we won’.”

“But when you got to Man United, a club with that history and they do that for a coach, who won a Europa League, a cup, a second position and a Charity Shield, you arrive at the conclusion they know that I gave everything that I could.”
