Raphael Varane is allegedly willing to extend his Manchester United contract for another season, after forcing his way back into the team.

Varane made his eighth appearance of the season for the Red Devils in their 0-0 draw with Liverpool.

The 30-year-old paired Jonny Evans at the heart of Manchester United’s defense to earn a point at Anfield.

Varane has fought his way back into manager Erik ten Hag’s starting lineup in the midst of a defensive injury crisis.

His appearance in the Champions League last week against Bayern Munich was his first for the club in seven weeks.

Varane is still determined to stay at Old Trafford, according to the Manchester Evening News, despite being limited to 14 appearances in all competitions this season.

United signed the World Cup and Champions League winner from Real Madrid in a £42 million transfer in the summer of 2021.

Varane was first reported to have signed a four-year contract, but it was later revealed that his contract was for three years with the option for a fourth.

The centre back is said to be hoping to use the one-year extension in his contract, which would extend his stay until the summer of 2025.

According to reports last week, United are unlikely to use that option, leaving Varane free to go as a free agent in the summer.

Players in their final six months of contract are permitted to sign a contract with a foreign club during the forthcoming January transfer window.

Varane was a staple in United’s defense last season, with his relationship with Lisandro Martinez providing Ten Hag with a good foundation on which to grow.

However, Varane has struggled and fallen behind both Harry Maguire and 35-year-old Jonny Evans, who returned to the club on a one-year deal in the summer due to Martinez’s long-term injury.

Maguire’s comeback this season has pushed Varane to the bench, and there have been rumors of a rift with Ten Hag.

Varane, Anthony Martial, and Casemiro are among the players available for trade to Saudi Pro League clubs, but the club will not push them out because all three are key components of Ten Hag’s squad.

United’s objective next month will be to offload Sancho, who has been banned from the first-team after virtually calling Erik Ten Hag a liar after being pulled from United’s Premier League defeat at Arsenal in September.
