Historically, the heavyweight match in English football has been between Liverpool and Manchester United. Regardless of the stature and form of either side at the time.
However, the duo put on a snorefest of the greatest order on Sunday at Anfield, albeit Erik ten Hag and Manchester United would be satisfied with their point given how things have been going for them this season.
Andre Onana would be pleased with his efforts as well, because it was a much-needed clean sheet for the club’s under-fire summer signing.
According to Premier League Productions (17/12/23 @ 5:25 pm), Paul Scholes has been’very, very erratic’ this season, but showed ‘assurance’ against Liverpool.
Andre Onana’s’smirking’ at the Kop End as he walked off at half-time was one of Paul Scholes’ favorite moments.
During the first period, Liverpool kicked off towards their main stand, but they were unable to get the crowd fully engaged.
Gary Neville emphasized the absence of atmosphere during the game, with Andre Onana standing tall and still trying to play out from the back despite the pressure on him.
Andre Onana against Liverpool
“That’s what Onana has been like, he has been inconsistent, much like the team really,” Scholes told reporters. “Very inconsistency.”
“He was brought in to play out from the back, and he still has the confidence to try it (against Liverpool).”
“In the first half, I saw him going off and smiling at the Kop End.” He’s got a small smirk on his face, because he understands he can get better.”
Andre Onana will come good
It’s evident that Onana believes in his abilities, which is critical in the high-pressure role he performs at Manchester United.
But he must also acknowledge that his squad would still be in Europe if it weren’t for his mistakes.
When Onana makes a mistake, people are ready to point out David de Gea, which is understandable.
However, when the Spaniard first joined Manchester United, he, too, went through a difficult spell before proving his worth time and again.
Give Onana time, and he will stand tall under ten Hag because, as he demonstrated with Inter last season, he possesses quality.
