Liverpool’s predicted lineup for the Carabao Cup quarter-final match against West Ham: Ryan Gravenberch are doubtful

Liverpool’s Premier League fixtures against Manchester United and Arsenal are sandwiched between a Carabao Cup quarter-final match against West Ham United at Anfield on Wednesday evening. Jürgen Klopp has some difficult selection decisions.

Logic says that a game in the least significant of the four competitions in which the Reds are competing is a good time to rest some players. However, with the club’s injury crisis apparently deteriorating with each game, Klopp’s pool of rotation alternatives continues to dwindle.

As is traditional before Carabao Cup matches, assistant manager Pep Lijnders led the pre-match press conference. He stated that Ben Doak needs surgery after tearing his lateral meniscus, which is a huge shame for the teenager who would have undoubtedly received opportunities to play next month when Mohamed Salah is away at the Africa Cup of Nations. Doak would have been in the squad for West Ham’s visit as well.

Better news came in the form of Ryan Gravenberch, who was forced to leave the encounter against Manchester United early. “It was only DOMS, so he’s fatigued, extra fatigue it means,” Lijnders explained. “So, we must proceed with caution, but I believe he can train today.” That is quite encouraging news.”

However, Liverpool was already missing six players before its last match, and there is no indication that any of the absent individuals will return before the new year at the earliest. This contrasts sharply with West Ham’s depleted roster for Wednesday, who (according to Premier Injuries) should only be missing Michail Antonio.
