Sergio Aguero, a former Manchester City striker, recently chose Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho’s overhead shot from 2011 over Wayne Rooney’s from 2011.
During the Red Devils’ 3-0 triumph over Everton on November 26, the 19-year-old Argentina international scored within three minutes. His overhead kick from inside the box found the corner and beat Toffees goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
Meanwhile, Rooney, who scored 253 goals for Manchester United, scored his amazing overhead kick in the 2011 Manchester derby. In comparison to Garnacho, the former England international scored from a closer range.
Aguero chose Garnacho’s stunning strike over Rooney’s versus Manchester City. He stated (via Goal) in an interview with Stake.com:
“Wow, what a goal!” That has to be the best 2023 aim. I was astounded when I saw it. A goal like that does not come easily. Both Garnacho’s and Rooney’s goals versus City are fantastic. For their athletic prowess and the sheer beauty of the goal. But I went with Garnacho’s for one important reason: Rooney scored versus City!”
When Rooney played at Manchester United, Aguero faced him eight times. Five of those battles were won by the former Argentina international’s team, while three were lost.
Rooney won the Premier League five times with Manchester United, as well as the UEFA Champions League and FA Cup once apiece.
