The Golden State Warriors appeared to be in trouble in their game against the Boston Celtics, behind by 17 points. However, Stephen Curry’s fourth-quarter and overtime heroics helped the Warriors win 132-126. Steph even taunted Jaylen Brown for declaring him “too small” during the final seconds of overtime.
Earlier in the game, in the third quarter, Jaylen Brown posted up on Stephen Curry and converted a difficult and-1. After assisting his team to a 13-point lead, the Celtics guard scored against Curry, who was called for his fifth foul, and conducted a “too small” celebration.
Steph was jotting down notes. Despite Brown’s heavy contest, the 6ft 2″ guard hit a layup in the waning seconds of the action-packed drama. As he walked back, The Baby-Faced Assassin clapped back at the Celtics’ leader and remarked,
“But I’m small?!”
Steph redeemed himself after a 0 three-point performance with an incredible showing. The two-time MVP finished with 33 points and six assists while shooting 6-11 from three-point range.
All season, Stephen Curry has been exceedingly clutch.
For the longest time, there was a narrative circulating that blamed Stephen Curry for not being a better clutch player. For the most part, the story was accurate. However, in recent years, Curry’s performance in the final few minutes of a game has grown incredibly impressive. Steph has certainly established himself as one of the more clutch players.
However, in response to those who still do not trust in him, the nine-time All-Star joked about his late-game performance.
Steph has been particularly effective in the last seconds of games this season. Aside from averaging 7.5 points per game in the fourth quarter, the four-time champion has 91 clutch points, the most in the league, on an incredible 72.2% true shooting percentage.
This victory over the Boston Celtics is one of the Warriors’ most memorable of the season. The Bay Area team rallied from a 17-point deficit, displaying a lot of character and playing with intent. Steph noted the “grit and determination” with which the entire team battled.
Steve Kerr’s club has already improved to a 13-14 record, closing in on.500. With the Warriors only two games behind the eighth-seeded Los Angeles Lakers, it will be interesting to see how quickly they can climb the standings.
