Photos: Christian Eriksen is returning to first-team training at Carrington

Christian Eriksen is excited to shortly return to Manchester United’s playing squad after rejoining the first team at Carrington.

Since sustaining a knee injury during November’s 1-0 victory against Luton Town at Old Trafford, the Denmark international has missed seven games for the Reds in all competitions.

On Monday morning, Eriksen participated in the group session for the first time since his rehabilitation, though it’s unclear when Erik ten Hag will have him available again.

After playing in every league game save one before that encounter with the Hatters, our number 14 expressed his annoyance at having to sit out time.

“Yeah, I hope so,” Christian replied, when asked if we’ll see him pull on the red shirt again soon.

“Like you said, it was the first part in training with the team [on Monday] and it felt good, so it’s going well.

“I think it’s always annoying to be on the side, no matter for how long and definitely now.

“When it takes a little bit longer than you wished for, then obviously it’s hard, but no, I was eager to come back as soon as I could.”

Eriksen has been missing from United in a number of key games in recent weeks.

Casemiro and Mason Mount, two more midfielders, have not been seen lately. Bruno Fernandes was suspended for Sunday’s goalless draw at Anfield.

Our 18-year-old Academy graduate Kobbie Mainoo drew attention on Merseyside, while Scott McTominay and Sofyan Amrabat have also been consistent starters in the starting lineup.

Next up for the Reds is a Saturday, December 23 meeting at the London Stadium against West Ham United. Ten Hag may give an update on Eriksen during his pregame news conference on Friday.

The former Tottenham and Ajax midfielder is now solely focused on putting himself in the running for a starting role.
