Jurgen Klopp, according to John Giles, cannot rely on Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez.
Liverpool has made a strong start to the season, trailing league leaders Arsenal by just one point.
After strengthening their roster over the last year or two, Jurgen Klopp’s side are perhaps ahead of schedule.
Darwin Nunez is one player who has come through the door as part of the renovation.
Last summer, the 24-year-old was signed from Benfica for a cost of up to £85 million. Nunez has put in some outstanding performances for the Reds, but his finishing leaves a lot to be desired.
However, he has improved under Klopp’s tutelage this season, registering 14 goal involvements in 24 games across all competitions.
However, according to John Giles of The Stand, Nunez is too inconsistent for Klopp to rely on as a player.
Giles argued on The Stand that Nunez ‘loses his head’ way too easily and cannot be trusted.
“His head doesn’t seem to be there sometimes,” he went on to say. “Sometimes you see him and think to yourself, ‘He’s a really top-class player.'”
“He’s one of those who could be.” They’re generally useless to you because you can’t rely on them to perform what needs to be done.
“He also loses his head easily.” He gets really aggressive, which is fine if done correctly, but not if you’re throwing fouls away.”
Nunez’s shaky finishing has irritated Liverpool fans at times this season. However, his all-around game has developed tremendously since joining Liverpool last summer.
Indeed, the Uruguay international is a genuine focal point for Liverpool’s attack, and his link-up play has been superb this season.
Nonetheless, if he is to continue to lead the line for Liverpool, he will need to start finding the back of the net more frequently.
Klopp will be trying to bring another title to Anfield in the near future, and they will require a prolific goalscorer to do so.
