Julian Alvarez sets a new FIFA Club World Cup record by scoring 40 seconds into the 2023 final against Fluminense

Manchester City seized the lead against Fluminense in the FIFA Club World Cup final on Friday in just 40 seconds.

After Fluminense goalie Fabio tipped a long-range shot from Nathan Ake into the post, Julian Alvarez improvised in the center of the penalty area and scored with his chest.

Alvarez’s unique finish enabled him to set a new Club World Cup record for the earliest goal in a final.

Prior to Friday, that record was held by Dante, a Brazilian defender who scored for Bayern Munich six minutes and 21 seconds into the 2013 final against Raja Casablanca.
