Andre Onana: A kind-hearted man involved in charitable work

The Cameroonian goalie will replace David De Gea at Manchester United after the club spent a huge £47 million on him.

In 2020, it was said that Onana used some of his pay to pay for an energy grid that gave power to a small town in Africa.

Onana, who is from Cameroon, didn’t want to back Mengueeme at first because it is where his mother grew up. He felt compelled to give back, though, after getting a £20,000-a-week deal with Ajax in 2019. Onana put the money he earned into a power grid, which gave people in Essoessam energy and stopped them from using kerosene lamps.

Also in 2016, Andre Onana set up the Andre Onana Foundation to help young African children. The organization gives money to help people get a better education, get medical care, and get support after terrorist attacks.

Onana’s rise to fame is also linked to the help he got from Samuel Eto’o, the former star player for Barcelona. Eto’o’s Cameroon school taught Onana how to play football, and he started at the La Masia school when he was 14. Onana was thankful for Eto’o’s help, but things didn’t go as planned during his time in Catalonia.

The André Onana Foundation gives food and basic necessities to four orphanages in Yaoundé.

In 2014, Barcelona was punished by FIFA for breaking the rules about hiring young players from other countries. The young players at Barcelona, including Onana, were not allowed to play in any games for 18 months because of this ban.
