Andre Onana fund an electric grid providing power to a small African town

Manchester United have splashed out £47 million on the Cameroonian goalkeeper, who will be taking over for David De Gea.

A small African hamlet now has electricity thanks to Onana’s 2020 decision to set aside a portion of his salary to build an electric grid.

Onana, a Cameroonian, didn’t always intend to root for Mengueeme, the town where his mother was born and raised. But he felt obliged to pay back after securing a £20,000-per-week deal with Ajax in 2019. The people of Essoessam no longer needed to use kerosene lights since Onana put their revenues into a power grid.

In 2016, Andre Onana also founded the Andre Onana Foundation to help underprivileged children in Africa. Support for victims of terrorist acts, increased access to healthcare, and improved educational opportunities are all areas in which the foundation has made donations.

The guidance that former Barcelona great Samuel Eto’o gave Onana is another important link in his rise to fame. When Onana was fourteen years old, he enrolled at the La Masia Academy in Cameroon to become a football prodigy and a disciple of Eto’o. Despite her appreciation for Eto’o’s encouragement, Onana’s stay in Catalonia was less than ideal.

The André Onana Foundation provides food and basic necessities to four Yaoundé orphans.

Barcelona was fined by FIFA in 2014 for violating their regulations on the acquisition of young players from outside the country. For 18 months, Onana and the rest of Barça’s youthful talent were unable to play in official matches due to this ban.
