After Manchester United’s 2-0 loss to West Ham United on Saturday, fans turned on Scott McTominay.
Manchester United failed to capitalize on their performance at Anfield last week, succumbing to David Moyes’ team despite a hard-fought point.
The Hammers won 2-0 thanks to excellent second-half performances from Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus.
Bowen scored in the 72nd minute after a lovely pass from Lucas Paqueta. Kudus set up his team’s second goal after capitalizing on Kobbie Mainoo’s error and playing a one-two with his partner.
In the first half, the Red Devils had chances, with Alejandro Garnacho getting two on the left wing but failing to capitalize.
On social media, Manchester United fans bemoaned their midfield at the London Stadium, voicing their disgust with McTominay.
“Play Hojlund, create no chances for Hojlund, take Hojlund off,” Manchester United supporter Adam McKola observed. That poor man. Never manufacture anything for him, Antony, McTominay, Garnacho.”
“McTominay is actually taking the p**s,” another person said. He could have sat in a deck chair with his feet up and watched Paqueta just as well.”
“Why tf is Mainoo dropping deep, doing the dirty week, while McTominay just gets a free role in the final third?” opined a third. ffs, Mainoo is over ten years younger.”
A another member of the crowd commented: “It feels like McTominay is the one fresh out of Carrington and Mainoo’s the 27 year old Manchester United midfielder.”
“Need Casemiro fit asap,” a fifth wrote. I’m sick of McTominay starting in midfield.”
Erik ten Hag’s team is now eighth in the league after losing eight games this season.
Man United’s Premier League season begins on Boxing Day against Unai Emery’s Aston Villa.
