Rasmus Hojlund not getting enough service from Garnacho and Antony?

Rasmus Hojjund’s first Premier League goal has been a long time coming, made even longer by Manchester United’s 2-0 defeat to West Ham on Saturday.

Because we have yet to go on a winning streak this season, it feels like United go into every game with so much on the line. Unfortunately, simple victories and a plethora of goals are merely a Christmas wish this year.

But there was no ignoring the significance of United’s victory over former manager David Moyes yesterday. Instead, we suffered our 13th defeat of the season, dropping us to eighth place in the Premier League.

As is customary, we must focus on United’s lack of goals, which will bring in new centre-forward Rasmus Hojlund. The 20-year-old has yet to make his Premier League debut.

Meanwhile, Saturday’s scorer Jarrod Bowen has more Premier League goals this season than the whole Manchester United starting XI, which is an embarrassment.

Hojjlund also had the lowest WhoScored rating (6.21) on the field, and it wasn’t the first time this season that the Denmark international appeared to be underutilized by his teammates. It’s no secret that those around him aren’t doing him any favors.

Antony and Alejandro Garnacho, who started on the wings for United, combined for just one pass to Hojlund during the game.

Erik ten Hag explains why Rasmus Hojlund played just 57 minutes against West Ham

Facundo Pellistri is one winger who wants to play with the striker, but he doesn’t get as much playing time as Garnacho, Antony or even Marcus Rashford. At the very least, he enjoys crossing the ball into the box.

Instead, Hojlund is being asked to dig deep and exploit his flaws. Is there anything weaker than a striker who receives no service?

Ten Hag must handle that in the coming weeks because it wasn’t as much of an issue in Europe, when Hojlund scored five goals in the Champions League group stages.
