Former Premier League manager Sam Allardyce believes Manchester United blundered by failing to re-sign Wilfried Zaha last summer.
The Reds signed Zaha as Sir Alex Ferguson’s final signing in 2013, but by the time he officially moved to Old Trafford from Selhurst Park, the famous manager had been replaced by David Moyes.
‘Big Sam,’ who has put himself in contender for the Republic of Ireland position, was speaking on his No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast about United and said he would have re-signed Zaha for the club.
“I would have gone and gotten him.” “Of course, I’ve worked with him, but I’d take him on a free all day,” Allardyce remarked.
“I think he wanted to play Champions League football,” Allardyce added.
“Well I would’ve given him Champions League football at Man United, he had Fergie didn’t he, but he was too young then he was.”
Zaha was a young player at the time, and he only made four appearances for United before being loaned out to Cardiff City by Moyes midway through his first season.
Everyone came to the same conclusion that Moyes didn’t like Zaha, despite Ferguson’s endorsement, and he was sent back to Palace, where he had a fantastic Premier League career.
However, in order to compete in the Champions League, Zaha opted to leave his comfort zone and join Super Lig giants Galatasaray last summer.
Zaha scored in Galatasaray’s 3-2 triumph at Old Trafford this season, during our terrible Champions League group stage campaign.
Zaha is now recognized as a fantastic talent, but at 31 years old, I believe United should be seeking for younger players in the transfer market.
