Jamie Carragher believes that Arsenal’s 0-0 draw with Liverpool this evening was the best possible result for Manchester City. This season, both teams have surpassed the defending champions, and a win for either could have expanded the distance between them and City.
City will not play this weekend owing to Club World Cup commitments, but they are aiming for a fourth consecutive Premier League crown and must keep pace with the best clubs.
While City celebrates their global title, they will be pleased with the weekend results, as Liverpool, Arsenal, and Aston Villa all dropped two points each, leaving City within striking distance of the top of the standings.
Carragher told the BBC while on punditry duty for the Arsenal game:
“At the moment, this is a fantastic result for Manchester City.”
