The ‘next Lionel Messi’ could join Manchester City, and negotiations are underway

Manchester City’s track record in the transfer market in recent years has been crucial to the club’s success.

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have dominated English football for several years and won the Premier League title last season.

They’ve already won two trophies this season, the UEFA Super Club and, more recently, the FIFA Club World Cup, as City’s quest for silverware continues.

City’s team saw a modest change this summer, with the departures of Ilkay Gundogan, Riyad Mahrez, Cole Palmer, and Aymeric Laporte.

However, City signed Mateo Kovacic, Jeremy Doku, and Josko Gvardiol to fill the openings that arose, and the blue half of Manchester still has a very good roster.

City have a history of being ahead of the curve when it comes to bringing in talent, and they are supposedly on the verge of acquiring a player who has been dubbed the “next Lionel Messi.”

Claudio Echeverri is only 17 years old and now plays for Argentine club River Plate, where he has progressed through the youth squad ranks.

He has also represented Argentina up to the under-17 level, and has earned parallels to GOAT Messi. He has been linked with interest from numerous European powerhouses, including Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, and Barcelona.

However, according to the most recent transfer guru Fabrizio Romano update, City appear to be well on their way to getting Echeverri’s services.

Taking to the social media network formerly known as Twitter, Romano reports that they are in the ‘final stages’ of a deal for Echeverri, mentioning a transfer fee package of more than €20 million.

And the transaction is expected to be similar to that of former River Plate player Julian Alvarez, whose move to City was confirmed in January 2022, but he remained on loan with the Argentine club until the summer of that year before joining City.

“Understand Manchester City are advancing to the final stages of the Claudio Echeverri deal, with contacts taking place even today,” he tweeted.

“We intend to structure a deal with River Plate in the same way that we did with Julián lvarez — Echeverri will remain on loan.”

“Package in excess of €20m.”

City may have pulled off another coup in the transfer market, paving the way for the next big player to join them next season.
