Chelsea fans criticize ‘selfish Raheem Sterling’ for not passing the ball to Nicolas Jackson

Fans have flocked to social media to criticize Raheem Sterling for failing to pass to a teammate while through on goal during Chelsea’s loss to Wolves in the first half.

Sterling pounced on a sloppy pass out of defense shortly after the half-hour mark at Molineux, dispossessing Joao Gomes before rushing towards Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa with Nicolas Jackson and Cole Palmer in tow.

Despite having two alternatives to his right as the goalkeeper approached, the former Manchester City star surged forward alone and fired a shot at Sa, who saved superbly to deny the hosts an early lead.

After Conor Gallagher recovered the ball, the Blues attempted to grab the initiative, but his next shot failed to trouble the Portuguese goalkeeper, who immediately exchanged harsh words with Gomes for his error.

Immediately following the move, many wondered why Sterling hadn’t tried to play in one of his colleagues’ place.

One fan praised Sterling’s early-game play but bemoaned the 29-year-old’s decision-making.

‘That is beyond comprehension from Sterling. So far, so good, but that is poor decision making.’

Another person commented, ‘Raheem Sterling, it is simply disgusting, oh my gosh.’

‘OMG RAHEEM STERLING THATS A CRIMINAL OFFENCE YOU HAVE TO PASS!!!!!!!!!’ said another fan.

Another user linked the event to Harry Kane’s failure to square the ball to Sterling in England’s 2018 World Cup semi-final match against Croatia.

Supporters on social media lamented the wingers decision making after the opportunity was squandered

‘This is even worse than when Kane didn’t square it to him. Sterling’s behavior is stunning.’

Sterling would rue his missed chance as Mario Lemina opened the score for the hosts on 51 minutes.

Wolves would attempt to seal the victory in injury time, with Matt Doherty increasing their advantage after capitalizing on a rebound inside the area.

Sterling would eventually record an assist as the game neared its conclusion, with his cross finding Christopher Nkunku for the Frenchman’s first goal for the club, but it wasn’t enough as Wolves hung on for the victory.
