The impact from Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal on Saturday continues, with Jürgen Klopp providing an update on Luis Daz’s injury, and William Saliba making an honest admission concerning Martin degaard’s handball. Here is the most recent Liverpool news.
Jürgen Klopp gives Luis Díaz update
Following the stalemate with Arsenal, Jürgen Klopp has given Liverpool a minor injury boost. Kostas Tsimikas and Luis Daz were both forced off during the encounter at Anfield, adding to the Reds’ woes.
Tsimikas’ prognosis is bleak, with Klopp revealing the defender shattered his collarbone after colliding with his manager in the aftermath of Bukayo Saka’s challenge. It means Liverpool will be without a senior left-back until at least the end of the season.
Meanwhile, Daz was forced off with a knee injury, bringing back memories of the condition that caused him to miss much of last season. Klopp, on the other hand, has provided a positive update, implying that the problem is not as serious as first thought.
“I’m hoping it’s not (a serious injury).” He is in anguish. “It was knee-on-knee,” Klopp explained (via ECHO). “At the time, we wanted to change twice, but Lucho was sick.”
“At first, we wanted to see if Lucho had to come off, but then we decided to switch all three.” We didn’t have to wait to check how Lucho was doing, so that’s what we did.
“Lucho informed me he was in pain. The physios were unconcerned, but you never know, and we have three games in three days. You just never know. We’ll see if it’s a speedy turnaround.”
William Saliba makes honest handball admission
Arsenal defender William Saliba admits his team should have been penalized for Martin Odegaard’s handball. During the first half, Liverpool was denied a penalty-kick equalizer before Mohamed Salah leveled.
degaard stumbled and handled the ball in the penalty area, but Liverpool’s claims were denied by referee Chris Kavanagh. VAR official David Coote later backed Kavanagh’s ruling.
According to PGMOL (Professional Game Match Officials Limited), the incident was ruled “not a clear and obvious error” since degaard’s arm was traveling towards his body rather than the ball as he went down. As he may have slid, it was not regarded to be a planned or unnatural action.
Saliba, on the other hand, agreed that his skipper was fortunate to get away with the choice. “Yeah, of course,” the defender stated in an interview with Viaplay (via the Daily Mail). “It was a penalty but I’m not the ref and they have to accept [it].”
