AFCON 2023 will take place from mid-January until mid-February. Some European teams are unhappy with the competition since some of their best players will be unavailable in the coming year.
Mohamed Salah of Liverpool is one of the most notable players that will be unavailable at this time. The Egyptian is one of Africa’s hottest properties, as well as his country’s best hope.
Mo Salah has been the Merseyside club’s backbone for many years and is largely regarded as one of the best players in English football. He is the Reds’ all-time leading scorer and will be sorely missed.
Salah has scored 16 goals and provided seven assists in 25 games this season. Twelve of these 16 goals came in 18 Premier League games.
Egypt is part of Group B, along with Ghana, Cape Verde, and Mozambique. Salah will miss games against Arsenal in the FA Cup, Fulham in the first leg of the EFL Cup semi-final, and Bournemouth in the Premier League. The semi-final’s second leg will take place two days after Egypt’s final group game. He is unlikely to play in this encounter if they do not advance to the knockout stage.
If Egypt is eliminated in the group stage, Salah may only miss one Premier League game. If the Pharaohs win their third final in four championships on 11 February, the winger will miss league games against Chelsea (31 January), Arsenal (4 February), and Burnley (10 February).
Liverpool fans will be expecting for Salah’s comeback after the group stage, but he will be disappointed. The Egyptian King will be looking to win the championship for his kingdom.
