For Boxing Day’s Premier League match between Manchester United and Aston Villa, Erik ten Hag is probably going to make a few changes.

Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus’ goals in the second half of United’s match against West Ham last Saturday sent them down 2-0, and they need to do better.

With the loss, United has now gone four games without scoring a goal for the first time since fall 1992. Ten Hag remarked, “We didn’t score the goal,” after the London loss. “The purpose of the initial objective. We didn’t give West Ham United anything, and I believe we are in control of the game.

“We had three excellent opportunities, but we failed to take them. After a single minute of inaction, we are behind and losing the game. That, I believe, is how I interpret the performance.

“As previously stated, we have players who are capable of scoring; they have demonstrated their ability in the past. Of course, winning games and scoring goals are important aspects of football, but we also need to accept responsibility for the things that we as a team failed to do.

“We have problems, numerous injuries, setbacks, etc. However, the players on the field are skilled enough to win. Therefore, it’s equally important to enter the box, confirm that you are there, and demonstrate your willingness to arrive there, be clinical, and score a goal.”

Raphael Varane’s illness forced Willy Kambwala to make his debut against West Ham; nonetheless, the 30-year-old is expected to start against Aston Villa on Boxing Day.

Due to Diogo Dalot’s suspension, Aaron Wan-Bissaka started at right back for the London Stadium match. Over the past 18 months, the two have battled for a starting spot, but the latter is expected to stay in the starting lineup.

Kobbie Mainoo is anticipated to be substituted on the bench in midfield to make room for Sofyan Amrabat. Ten Hag is taking the child very gently, and Amrabat’s experience will be trusted.

Another tweak to the attack might see Marcus Rashford return to the starting lineup after starting the last two games on the bench.

Although Rashford hasn’t had much of an effect coming off the bench, Antony hasn’t scored or assisted this year.
