Liverpool fans are perplexed as to why Cody Gakpo’s goal against Burnley was not overturned.
The Reds headed to Turf Moor knowing that a point would put them atop the Premier League standings, and they got off to a flying start due to Darwin Nunez’s brilliant goal on six minutes.
Prior to Gakpo’s goal, Nunez appeared to have fouled Taylor.
Gakpo assisted his goal, and the Dutchman later in the first half thought he had scored himself.
His finish, however, was called off because referee Paul Tierney saw a foul in the build-up.
Nunez was adjudged to have fouled Charlie Taylor within the area, and VAR was called in, but the goal stood.
However, Liverpool fans were upset on social media, with one questioning on X, “What’s wrong with the goal?!?” Gakpo deceived.”
“Very soft there, Gakpo goal disallowed,” said another.
With laughing emojis, a third said, “Gakpo should have a goal and two assists in 33 minutes.”
“Why was Gakpo’s goal disallowed because VAR showed Nunez didn’t touch the Burnley player?” a fourth panelist asked.
Despite a series of chances to extend their advantage, including Mohamed Salah’s strike that rocked Clarets goalkeeper James Trafford’s crossbar, the Reds led 1-0 at halftime.
Gakpo scored with a stunning shot into the net.
Elliott’s goal at Turf Moor was also called back.
VAR was used again at the start of the second half when Mohamed Salah judged Harvey Elliott’s goal offside.
However, replays appear to show that he was pushed into an offside position, and Liverpool fans were outraged once more.
“It’s clear that Salah is being forced to play offside. “I’m sick,” said one of them.
Another said, “Goalie will never ever ever save that in a million years, and Salah is already pushed offside by the Burnley player.” A complete f****** joke.”
“There is no way to rule that out!” F*** off. “Has nothing to do with it, and the defender is pushing him there,” the third player said.
“Salah was pushed offside…,” a fourth inquired. “How come they didn’t show that on the VAR monitor?”
In the 90th minute, Diogo Jota scored from a tight angle for Liverpool’s second goal on the third attempt.
