Beating Burnley 2-0, Liverpool climbed to the top of the Premier League

Liverpool ascended to the top of the Premier League when Darwin Nunez scored to lead a 2-0 win over Burnley.

Jurgen Klopp’s team seized an early lead at Turf Moor through Nunez and held on despite a slew of chances.

Nunez’s eighth goal of the season was his first in 12 games since November 1, when he scored against Bournemouth in the League Cup.

Diogo Jota, returning after a month’s injury layoff, sealed the victory late on, putting Liverpool two points ahead of second-placed Arsenal, who have a game in hand.

“We played an incredible game and then it was just 1-0 for so long, which was really strange!” Klopp stated.

“Nunez is a fantastic finisher, but if a striker does not score, the entire system suffers.” You doubt everything.”

United were on the verge of another humiliating defeat at Old Trafford when goals from John McGinn and Leander Dendoncker put Villa in command at halftime.

Erik ten Hag’s team was booed off at halftime, but they came back strong, with Alejandro Garnacho scoring their first goal in seven hours and twenty minutes.

Garnacho equalized again before Hojlund scored his first Premier League goal in his 15th game with eight minutes remaining.

Hojlund’s euphoric strike snapped United’s four-match winless streak in all competitions, propelling them to sixth place in the Premier League.

“At halftime, I told the team to ‘keep believing.'” The atmosphere shifted dramatically from the first to the second half. “We can beat anyone if we play our best,” Ten Hag stated.

Villa’s surprising title challenge has taken a hit after two games without a win.

Unai Emery’s men are still third, three points behind Liverpool, despite suffering their first defeat in 11 games across all competitions.

Arsenal can reclaim first place with a win over West Ham at home on Thursday.

In other results, Bournemouth defeated Fulham 3-0, while Luton Town beat Sheffield United 3-2 thanks to two late own goals.
