Rasmus Hojlund’s first Premier League goal helped Manchester United come from behind against Villa

Manchester United defeated Aston Villa 3-2 in the Premier League on Tuesday after conceding two goals in the first 26 minutes at Old Trafford.

United came into the game having gone four games without a win or a goal in all competitions, losing three of them. The atmosphere was hostile at halftime, and United’s defending was shambolic.

McGinn’s goal came from a free kick on the right, as the midfielder’s cross was allowed to bounce in the box and fly into the net without anyone getting a touch.

After further poor defending from United, Villa increased its lead five minutes later when Dendoncker threw his foot out to redirect Clement Lenglet’s header over the line from a corner.

Villa appeared destined to climb up to second position and level on points with leader Liverpool, but the game altered dramatically after the break.

Garnacho thought he had equalized just after halftime, but his celebrations were cut short when VAR judged him offside.

He didn’t have to wait long before he found the back of the net again, as United piled on the pressure.

In the 59th minute, Bruno Fernandes sent in Marcus Rashford on the left, who crossed to the onrushing Garnacho, who converted at the far post.

Garnacho’s second goal came in the 71st minute, and Old Trafford roared. Fernandes was involved once more, this time with a deflected cross that found Garnacho in the box. The forward’s shot then deflected again, beating Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

Hojlund sealed the comeback in the 82nd minute with a left-footed volley from a corner, his first league goal since joining the club from Atalanta in the offseason for $82 million.

The home crowd erupted in joy, and Ten Hag followed suit on the sidelines.

“I am so happy that the strikers scored today, because that is what we needed,” Ten Hag was quoted as saying. “I know Rasmus, Rashford, and Garnacho are capable of it.” They’re all good finishers, and we have plenty more. They must demonstrate it in every game.”
