Rasmus Hojlund was overtaken with emotion after finally opening his Premier League account, delighting his biggest fan.
The Manchester United striker scored in his 15th Premier League appearance, breaking a streak of nearly 1,000 minutes without a goal.
Hojlund ultimately made his Premier League debut for United.
His strike in the 82nd minute capped a spectacular second half performance by the hosts, who came back from a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 against Aston Villa.
And it was Hojlund who scored the winner, his first league goal since joining from Atalanta for £72 million in the summer.
While United fans have derided the 20-year-old’s goal return, one Australian artist has gone viral for his support of the Denmark international.
Sean Millis, a competitor on The Voice Australia 2023, has gone viral with his song ‘Waiting for a Miracle,’ which he has used to support Hojlund.
Millis, who has Hunter syndrome, a rare genetic illness in which huge sugar molecules called glycosaminoglycans (or GAGs or mucopolysaccharides) build up in bodily tissues, has been sending Hojlund encouraging films while wearing a United shirt with the player’s name and number on the back.
Following his strike, he took to Instagram, where he could not contain his joy.
“Let’s go Rasmus Hojlund,” Millis said, sharing a photo of Hojlund’s celebration. What a fantastic goal.”
Hojlund was in fantastic form for United during their disastrous Champions League group stage campaign, scoring five goals in his first four games.
After scoring against Villa, Hojlund became overcome with emotion.
Millis was overjoyed for Hojlund after his victory at Old Trafford.
But his relief was palpable after he directed his strike in off the post, and United fans are hoping it is the first of many.
After the five-goal thriller, the former Sturm Graz player was questioned if he is the happiest guy in Manchester while speaking to Amazon Prime alongside fellow striker Alejandro Garnacho.
Hojlund has struggled in front of goal this season, but he remains a popular figure among United supporters.
“It’s been a while [waiting for a first league goal], but yes, I am very happy,” he remarked. Right now, I am the happiest man alive.
“You can tell by the celebrations.” As [Garnacho] stated, we believed in ourselves to the very end, and we demonstrated a lot of character today.”
“As the manager [Erik ten Hag] has said before, I’ve scored a couple [five] in the Champions League, but it’s been a while in the Premier League,” he continued.
“So I’m happy to get the first one and now hopefully I can just build on that and keep going.”
The success moves United up to sixth place in the rankings, with Ten Hag’s team now only three points behind rivals Manchester City in fifth place.
