Mauricio Pochettino, manager of Chelsea, has disclosed where he intends to play new forward Christopher Nkunku and explains his ideal position.

Nkunku is one of those versatile players who can likely fill a variety of roles across the attack, but he’s also one of those attackers who can’t really be labeled as just a striker.

Some might classify him as a wide player, a second striker, or a number 10, and I believe the latter is where he excels.

However, Pochettino believes he is better suited as a 9 or a 10, which is extremely intriguing.

I don’t think Nkunku is the type of 9 that Chelsea needs right now, and I believe he needs to play behind a striker to get the most out of him.

Pochettino said 90min: “Because he’s coming back from injury, I think he’s best as a 10 or a 9, more than from the left or right side.”

“I think at the moment to cope with the demand of the Premier League and what the team need, he is better in the middle positions.”

We’ll see how Pochettino integrates him into his squad when he gradually returns to action.
