Erik Ten Hag’s Manchester United forward line is capable of posing a danger, despite the fact that it took half the season to find it.
Aston Villa had to take a 2-0 lead before the Red Devils got going, but once they did, they demonstrated the attacking prowess that is conceivable and should be available on a regular basis.
Ten Hag started Marcus Rashford on the left wing, who hadn’t played a Premier League game in a month, with Rasmus Hojlund, who was looking for his first domestic goal, and Alejandro Garnacho on the right.
It’s no secret that Manchester United has struggled to score goals. They have only scored 21 goals in 19 Premier League games, ranking fourth in the league. It is an indictment of the players’ lack of coordination and service in the final third.
After falling behind 2-0, Manchester United’s players banded together and staged a comeback to remember at Old Trafford. Garnacho, 19, took the game by the scruff of the neck and would have scored a hat-trick if it hadn’t been for an offside goal.
This season, the Argentina international has moved up significantly under Ten Hag and is currently boosting his productivity. Garnacho has put forth a string of consistently better performances since his incredible overhead bicycle kick at Goodison Park.
While he is still young and will make mistakes, such as squandering vital chances away at West Ham last week, his bravery and willingness to keep attempting to improve his opposite man is clear and one of his major qualities.
Garnacho, who had never played on the right wing before, put up one of his best performances in a Manchester United shirt. His pace, dribbling ability, and ability to sniff out chances saw him score twice and set United on their way to yet another epic comeback.
It was also the ideal night for Hojlund, who had been waiting all season to score in the Premier League. The Danish international may have five Champions League goals, but domestic competition has proved illusive and problematic.
The paucity of service into Hojlund has been well-documented and has been a big issue for the Red Devils this season. However, Manchester United have finally found a method to incorporate the Dane into the game and use him as a danger.
Hojlund, 20, has shown flashes of what he can provide to this club, with lots more to come. His raw speed and physical characteristics are ideal for the Premier League; all he needs are players to get him involved in the final third.
The paucity of crosses into the box for the center striker to try to get on the end of has been a concern for United all season.
Ten Hag should be comfortable, barring injuries, in keeping this settled front three for the time being, especially with the limited games on the horizon, following Rashford’s presence in the starting lineup and his success.
Manchester United are only set to play three games until the end of January, one of which being an away trip to Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup, which they will be aiming to win.
The Dutch manager must use the lesser load in games and give this newly formed United front three the freedom to excel on the pitch.
