Manchester United fans wondered if Patrice Evra was back on the raw chicken after his ‘bold’ half-time prediction against Aston Villa on Boxing Day.
They later celebrated the club veteran as a prophet as his claim came true, as Old Trafford supporters experienced a Christmas miracle.
Man United fans thought Evra was insane when he predicted a goal at halftime, but he had the last laugh.
Few Manchester United fans expected a comeback after their team fell behind 2-0 to Unai Emery’s resurgent Villa side in the first 30 minutes.
Fans at home could have turned off the TV and drowned their sorrows in leftover turkey and cranberry sauce.
But the ever-optimistic Evra said the game was not over and that Erik ten Hag’s side had actually performed well, which raised a few eyebrows among United fans online.
The Frenchman claimed that Manchester United created chances but were wasteful in attack, losing two goals due to shoddy defending at set-pieces.
And those raised eyebrows turned to outright mockery when he predicted the Red Devils would come back from two goals behind to win at a moment when they appeared doomed.
“I definitely understand the frustration,” the former Manchester United defender stated.
“They had a good first 45 minutes, but the reality is that they’re 2-0 down, and this has happened far too often.”
“But, if United play the same way and just be more focused on the set-pieces, I wouldn’t be surprised if United can overcome it and win this game 3-2.”
Man United’s comeback must be completed.
That was quite a claim considering United had gone four games without scoring, and several fans were skeptical to say the least.
“Manchester United have already lost the match,” one user said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Not scored in seven hours but he thinks we will score three in the next 45 minutes [crying laughing emoji],” he added.
“You’re hallucinating!” “Not with these players,” a third United supporter wrote.
Some admirers speculated if Evra had been on the raw poultry again during the holidays.
“I want whatever Patrice is smoking, please,” one admirer wrote, while another asked, “Has Evra been licking raw chicken again?”
But Evra had the last laugh, with fans calling him a ‘prophet’ and a ‘wizard’ and subsequently apologizing for not having the same confidence as Ten Hag’s team accomplished exactly what he predicted, coming back to win the game 3-2.
Alejandro Garnacho’s double cancelled out John McGinn and Leander Dendoncker’s early strikes, before Rasmus Hojlund stepped up to complete the comeback with an 82nd-minute winner.
It’s never a bad time to score your first Premier League goal.
After the victory, Evra told Ten Hag for Amazon Prime, “I was the only crazy man to say if Man United play with the same determination, we will score three goals and win this game.”
Looks like he and the United manager, who was the victim of’sacked in the morning chants’ from Villa fans early in the game, had the last laugh.
